Cheese production

Ever wondered how cheese is produced? Click on the steps below to find out about making cheese or watch the film on the right.

Step 1: The best milk

  • Everyday, FrieslandCampina’s cheese production sites receive fresh milk from farms.
  • Before the milk is pumped into the tankers, a quality sample is taken to ensure the absence of antibiotics. This is the first of a series of quality checks taken at various intervals during the entire production process.
  • Approximately 10 litres of milk is required for the production of 1 kilo of cheese. This is because cheese production mainly involves the use of milk’s basic ingredients (proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals).
